Achievements of Jai Swachhta Samiti

The very first project of Total Sanitation Campaign undertaken by the NGO, "Jai Swachhta Samiti" was a record breaking success not only at District or the State level but it marked its presence even at the National level.

The number of Gram Panchayats in a District which were rewarded "Nirmal Gram Puraskar" were highest in the country. 270 villages out of a total of 333 villages of District Sirsa were awarded with the "Nirmal Gram Puraskar" by the President of India at a function held in Hisar in Haryana.

The Success Stories of all the villages have been recorded in registers with photographs written by members of ‘Swachhta Samiti” from villages themselves.

Swachhta – Ek Ehsaas

Looking at the success of Total sanitation Campaign in Sirsa, a book    named ‘Swachhta – Ek Ehsaas” was also written by Mrs. Monica Gupta, the President of "Jai Swachhta Samiti" wherein she shared the experiences of this campaign and gave these experiences the shape of a book to convey the Success Story of District Sirsa to those people who are still not sure about the success of this campaign. The message was "if this is possible at one place then why not elsewhere". The book includes the details of this campaign in district Sirsa right from the start of the campaign till it becomes a Success Story. The views of the villagers who contributed significantly in this campaign are also published in this book.

Jago India – Zee News

The success also caught attention of the media and a complete report on this campaign was selected for an inspirational program “Jago India” of Zee News and this program was telecast on 30.04.2008.

Limca Book of Records

Ms. Vijaya Ghosh, The Chief editor of “Limca Book of Records” contacted "Jai Swachhta Samiti" when she got to know about the success of this campaign and she visited Sirsa with her team for inspection & verification of the facts. She visited many villages and was not only surprised to see the commitment of villagers towards Swachhta but shared some memorable moments as well with them. Again, its a matter of great pride for "Jai Swachhta Samiti" that its name has been published in the “Limca Book of Records” 2009 for success of Total Sanitation Campaign in District Sirsa.

A total of 755 SHGs have been formed so far in the district by "Jai Swachhta Samiti". Out of this, 298 SHGs are of women members only and 211 SHGs have more women as members than the men. That means, more than 4500 women from rural areas have been motivated and involved in Self Help Groups.
